Can DoorDash Drivers Deduct Hot Bags, Dash Cams, and Parking Tickets?

The answer is different for each of these: insulated delivery bags and dash cams are deductible, but parking tickets and other fines are never deductible, no matter how directly they're tied to a delivery.
Insulated delivery bags and hot bags: These are fully deductible as an ordinary cost of doing DoorDash work. Since the bag exists specifically to keep food at the right temperature for customers, it's a business supply just like any other equipment you buy to do the job — the same treatment applies to backup bags, bag liners, and any branded hot bags provided at your own cost rather than reimbursed.
Dash cams: A dash cam is deductible as well, since it protects you in the event of an accident or a dispute while driving for deliveries. If you use the dash cam only while working, the full cost is deductible; if you also use it for personal driving, only the business-use percentage counts, similar to how a phone bill deduction works.
Parking tickets and other fines: This is where drivers often get it wrong. Parking tickets, speeding tickets, and other fines are never tax-deductible, even if they happened while you were actively making a delivery. The IRS specifically disallows deductions for fines and penalties paid to a government agency, regardless of how directly they're connected to earning income. A parking fee at a legitimate paid parking meter or garage is different — that's a normal deductible expense — but a ticket for violating a parking rule is not.
Other commonly deductible DoorDash driver expenses:
The business-use portion of your phone bill and data plan
Phone mount, charger, and car accessories used for deliveries
Roadside assistance plans used primarily for driving
Mileage using the standard rate or actual vehicle expenses
A common mistake: drivers assume that because a ticket happened "on the clock," it must be a business expense the same way gas or a hot bag would be — but fines are treated as a personal cost by the IRS no matter when or why they occurred.
BossTax's free app tracks your delivery-related purchases like bags and dash cams automatically, so the deductible costs get captured while the non-deductible ones stay out of your write-offs.
